Cuttack: The Orissa high court on Thursday issued fresh directions to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, to facilitate the treatment of 16 children suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a rare genetic disease, at the nearest centre of excellence.
The two-judge bench of Chief Justice S Muralidhar and Justice M S Raman directed AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, to issue “written advice to enable them to not only receive the financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh but also treatment at the respective COE to which they will be referred to”.
The bench further directed AIIMS to complete the exercise within 10 days and file a compliance affidavit by December 19. On September 9, HC had directed AIIMS to provide treatment to 15 children with reimbursement of cost of such treatment to be borne by the Centre. A similar order was issued on October 11 in case of another child.
